There are many elements to music education, and I am never going to be done learning them. As a teacher, I want to be constantly growing and learning. My goals are to uphold and teach the value of music, encourage students to work together for the best ensemble experience, open doors of opportunity for students, expose students to challenging and encouraging music, and create a safe space for students to learn, grow, and be themselves.
My personal classroom management philosophy is partially based on Marzano’s concepts of the need for engagement in students. I want to create an environment that is interesting, challenging, and rewarding for students. My philosophy is also partially based on Love and Logic. Students need someone to believe in them, and I want to be that person. I will be a source of positivity and encouragement for my students. I will be fair and consistent with consequences and clearly communicate what’s okay and not okay in my classroom to provide the most efficient classroom.
